In a butterfly garden in Cambodia close to Angkor WatTime
It was during the very hot time of the day around 12 pm. I was almost the only person in the garden with beautiful flowers, butterflies, caterpillars.Lighting
I took the photo with aperture f/5,0 ; shutter speed 1/1600Equipment
Nikon D5 and the Nikon 105mm micro lens, no flash, no tripodInspiration
Cambodia is a fascinating country with a sad history, that is still very present. Pollution of the air is a big issue. After traveling around for several days, I came to this garden which was so colorful and beautiful and the air was so clean. It was like a little oasis. I just loved it. The beauty of the butterflies was just wonderful. I tried to capture that.Editing
Very little, I cropped it a little. In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D4 and Nikon D800. From the 105mm micro to a 600mm Nikon lens a carry a variety of lenses depending what I want to do. During bird migration I carry the 600 mm lens for sure, despite the fact that it is heavy and I need a tripod as well. During the summer time I carry a micro lens. There are always interesting bug, dragon flies , damsel flies around.Feedback
It sounds stupid , but I think there is some truth in it. When I want to take pictures of dragon flies or butterflies I always wait , before I I start taking pictures. I observe how they move, whether they have a favorite spot to rest and sometimes I feel that they get used to me hanging around. And only then I start taking pictures. I think that the prerequisite for any good picture is patience and fascination. If you are not intrigued be something or somebody, it is not worthwhile taking a picture. In case you do so anyway, it will most likely not be a good one.
