Location
I took this photo in Kenya, Ol Pejeta National ParkTime
I was on a safari and had spent all day outside enjoying the beautiful nature and wildlife of Kenya. We were on our way back to the camp in the late afternoon, early evening. The light was beautiful. We saw a group of waterbucks and I took several photos with different cameras and lenses. This is one of my favorite photos. The heart shape mouth of these animals is such a nice contrast. The fur is so beautiful as well. But in situations, where they defend themselves, they can produce a nasty odor in order to chase lions or leopards away.Lighting
Aperture f/4 and shatter of 1/1000 were used at ISO 400.Equipment
I used my Nikon D800 with a 600mm lens, Nikon as well. I positioned the lens on a bean bag while sitting in a car. The 600 mm lens is my favorite lens. I have carried the lens all over the world, from Costa Rica, the US, different place in Europe, Bhutan, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Namibia.Inspiration
Africa is so beautiful for many reasons. First of all the people, of course. But secondly the light. The light in the morning and the evening is so unique and so beautiful. We saw this group of waterbucks in the later afternoon/early evening. It was so peaceful and beautiful. They were a little curious, but not really upset by us.Editing
I converted the photo into black and white using lightroom. In my camera bag
I always have a Nikon camera in my bag, a D4 or D5. I use several different lenses depending on what I want to do. I have a 24 to 70mm for the city, a 105 mm or 200 mm macro for insects in the summer, the 600 mm for wildlife.I use a tripod quite often, a beanbag on a safari.Feedback
Photography is about love and light. If the light is beautiful, it is so much easier to take a good picture. Light is the most important factor. And the second most important thing is love. If one loves something or someone, the pictures will show that.
