This was taken at the tail end of the Blue Hour to capture a hint of blue in the sky instead of the normal grey or orange of most night shots.Equipment
Camera: Nikon D700 Lens: Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8Inspiration
I've always wanted to capture a nice skyline photo of Chicago. I also wanted to try my hand at HDR. This seemed like a perfect opportunity for both.Editing
I took three exposures and merged them using Photomatix Pro 4.In my camera bag
Nikon Full Frame DSLR, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Nikon 24-70mm f/2,8, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II, and Nikon 16mm f/2.8 fisheye.Feedback
A tripod is essential for a long exposure like this. HDR is also essential to bring out all the colors in the skyline and reflections on the water. The best time is during the Blue Hour to get a hint of blue in the sky.
