Treat fireworks as though you are shooting in daylight.Equipment
Nikon D700 with Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR1.Inspiration
I always wanted to shoot fireworks with something in the frame with them. The Navy Pier fireworks gave me a perfect opportunity with a bonus of reflections on Lake Michigan.Editing
Very little, just boosted the saturation a bit.In my camera bag
Nikon full frame DSLR, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, Nikon 16mm f/2.8 fisheye.Feedback
Pick a vantage point that allows you to capture the fireworks with something in the frame. It makes them more interesting and provides some scale. Shoot with an exposure of 2-5 seconds, to capture multiple bursts and not blow them out.
