Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in an abandoned house in the countryside of Parma

Time

it was early afternoon, but the time of day is not essential for such a photo, the interior of the building was in fact very dark.

Lighting

The light of this photo is all artificial, on the left I placed a speedlight flash with softbox so as to create a fairly concentrated light but soft and natural, without flash the darkness was almost absolute

Equipment

For this photo I used my sony a7ii, the 28mm f2 sony and a flash speelight godox 685

Inspiration

My friend Elisa loves gothic and dark atmospheres so she is the one who specifically asked me to make a set of this type and I am of course always available when it comes to taking some special photos.

Editing

there is a post-processing but nothing in particular, I adjusted the colors and amplified the contrast between light and shadow by doing a bit of dodge and burn.

In my camera bag

For this type of photo I always carry with me a pair of fixed lenses that can work well for portraits, like 35mm, 50mm or 28mm. In enclosed spaces it is difficult to use longer lenses. I always have with me a flash and a softbox with a stand, better the giraffe one which is a little more versatile as the type of use.

Feedback

For this type of photo you have to organize yourself in the sense that they are not photos you can improvise. We had a location, we had a model and the right equipment. You can improvise the poses, but even better is to know exactly what you want to shoot. In this case the programming is fundamental.
