Behind The Lens

Location

Flamborough Head in East Yorkshire, UK is a stunning place with its rugged chalk stone cliffs, this part of it is located just two minutes south east of the Lighthouse

Time

I had just purchased a set of reverse graduated filters and was hoping to get out for sunrise to test them, with it being Febuary I set offout at 7:00am and captured this shot at about 7:40am on 29th Febuary 2016

Lighting

As the sun was positioned on the horizon I used a three stop reverse graduated filter to balance the light and achieved quite pleasing results with very little processing

Equipment

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, tripod, cable release and a Formatt hitech 3 stop reverse graduatred filter

Inspiration

This is a location I visit frequently and know very well the tide was at a reasonable level, I checked the photographers ephimeris the night before for sunrise direction and decided this would be a good spot to try my new filters

Editing

Slight adjustments to highlights, shadows Blacks and Whites in lightroom ttick the two boxes in lense corrections then export to photoshop for a levels adjustment a high pass sharpen and that was it.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 5D Mark III, Canon EOS 7D, EF17-40mm f/4L USM, EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM Lens, 0.3, 0.6 x2, 0.9 x2 hard graduated ND filters, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 soft graduated ND Lee filters, 0.6 ND filter, Big Stopper, Little Stopper, Circular polariser, landscape circular polariser, Hitech 0.3,0.6,0.9 reverse graduated ND filters, manual, white balance card and misc cleaning products

Feedback

This was the result of some carefull planning and experimentation on location
