Location
This photo was taken during one of my mountain bike rides. I am an MTB enthusiast and used to take every opportunity to bring the camera in these rides. South of Mexico City in the volcanic area of Chichinautzin, at least 9,000 ft ASL, so it gets a bit cold. If there is a chance, I merge 3 passions: biking, travel, photography.Time
It was a sunny morning, around 9:30 am, in the summer. Fog was vanishing but you still can notice the vapor originated form the difference in temperature.Lighting
This point of view was facing the sun rising and some clouding. I knew it was going to come out a bit foggy so I decided to bracket -2. 0, +2 to bring details in shadows. I think it was a very good decision.Equipment
Nikon D90 and VR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G, no tripod... but a steady arm.Inspiration
In this photo, my riding was from left to right. So it was not that "different" from a typical field. However, as I was going forward, I noticed the trees and the effect of the different temperatures, atmosphere and soil and the effect, vapor. So I decided to take the shots... with the treesEditing
Once I selected the set of 3 bracketed photos, I used Photomatix for HDR and a bit of tone mapping. In my camera bag
MTB gives you a little space to maneuver, so you have to pack light, as in this case my Nikon D800, the AF.s Nikkor 24.70/2.8. Other than that, I also have in my bag: filters (ND, polarizing, UV), Sigma APO 70-200/2.8 EX, a teleconverter 2x DG, Tokina SD 12-24, a Manfrotto 7301 tripod, Nikon flash SB 600 and a remote.Feedback
Weather here is typically better than Mexico City. It is in the outskirts, where changes in weather are very frequent. Specially when smog reaches this corners. On a clear day, from different places you can see the volcanoes, part of the city and other mountains and really enjoy very clear skies. But you have to be prepared for these changes and a tripod could be a great help.
