I am very fond of MTB (well.... used to be) and in one of my rides in Cuetzalan, Puebla, Mexico, we encountered with this wonderful bird.Time
This is is one of my favorite phots. It was in the afternoon, around 4-5pm. I remember we were very tired after having rode for many hours, wanted to find water source, when after a curve we found this great bird.Lighting
It was getting late and I wanted to take the opportunity that the peacock was showing its dance like in season to a female bird, but actually I think it was a sign of defense. So I had to hurry , stood in front of him and took the camera position of "Aperture" perhaps sacrificing some speed ...Equipment
Nikon D90 and VR 18-200 f/3.5-5.6G, that was all I could carry when bikingInspiration
Colors and pattern. It is not usual too see this unless you go to a zoo. This was an opportunity and we were tired and it was getting late, I took a lot of pictures.... and had fun with the bird.Editing
Yes, I did. It was simple, but had to crop it (I liked it) pushed the curves a bit of vibrance and saturation, and finally a bit of sharpening. But the final processing was made 4 years later when I was reviewing the archives. In my camera bag
At that time (2011) the Nikon D90, Nikon VR 18-200, a Tokina 12-24, one or 2 filters (polarizer, ND). Nowadays (2018) I use: D800, Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8, UV filter, Sigma Art 50/f1.4, Samyang 14/f2.8, tripod, ND filters, CP filter, cleaning kit, remote. Sometimes, depending on the outings I may add Sigma 70-200/f2.8, Nikon 105/f2.8 macro, flash.Feedback
For the record, we did not expect this finding in our ride. But you may want to go to a Zoo. Try to be as close as possible but the challenge is not to disturb the bird. You can use a big zoom or a telephoto. As always, patience is necessary to see the expanded feathers. A few years ago I went to ranch where they grow these birds and saw dozens of these birds, and the amazing thing was that mating season was near so i just had a good time watching the typical dancing.
