Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in my studio at the time in Traverse City, Michigan.

Time

I shot this one morning in early December as a fun project.

Lighting

I used 3 strobes, all with some diffusion. Two were positioned on to the background and one soft box over the "Balancing Truffles." I also used a couple of silver cards to bounce some more light in to the subject.

Equipment

My Nikon D3 and Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 micro was mounted on a studio tripod. The lights were all Speedotron.

Inspiration

At the time, every year around Christmas, I would do a fun shot to send to my clients to wish them all a Merry Christmas. I wanted to do something food oriented and came up with the idea for the "Balancing Truffles" image.

Editing

There was not a lot of post production work needed for this image. Mostly just cleaning it up a bit and playing with the contrast and density.

In my camera bag

My camera bag holds my Nikon D3 and an assortment of Nikkor lenses. I also keep extra Li-ion batteries for my camera and a handful of AA batteries. There is also a cloth to clean lenses and protective filters and a few granola bars just in case.

Feedback

For me simple is better and keep the viewer guessing.
