Behind The Lens

Location

The picture was taken in Ha Noi. The traffic is quite challenging in the city with so many motor bikes. I was afraid to cross streets on my own. My wonderful guide took me to train street, which is really an amazing place and a train comes actually through this narrow street several times a day.

Time

It was in the morning after sunrise. The sky was overcast, but it was not raining yet.

Lighting

I wanted this photo to look like a documentation, but interesting with some contrast. In a way I felt that having a train through such a narrow street was somewhat dangerous. Documentation with a little dark note, that is what I wanted to show.

Equipment

I took this shot with my Leica Q2 MONO, in other words a camera that does only black and white. I love the quality of the lens of this camera. I did not use any other equipment, no tripod etc.

Inspiration

I really enjoyed my trip to Viet Nam. Truly fascinating history and people. Like in Cambodia and other countries you still feel the traumatic times that this country experienced. Somehow there is some melancholy, which I could feel in this photo.

Editing

I did a little post processing in lightroom, I enhanced the contrast.

In my camera bag

It depends very much on where I am going and what I plan to do. For trips to Africa and wildlife I love my 600 mm lens, which is pretty heavy. together with a Nikon D5. Recently I bought a Leica Q2 Mono, which is small, and I take it everywhere. For dragon flies and other insects I take along a Nikon macro lens.

Feedback

It is easy to take photos of things that are fascinating and that I love. The best camera of the world cannot substitute the feeling you have for a subject, a landscape, an animal. I liked Ha Noi, a very lively place with a little melancholy. I met some wonderful people and felt very welcome. I hope I could tell that through my photos.
