Location
This photo was taken while on vacation at the Boardwalk at Walt Disney World Florida. My husband and I were staying at one of the resorts for our anniversary.Time
This is my absolute favorite image I have taken so far. I am a completely self-taught photographer and have been dying to capture a beautiful sunrise. I have gone out on several different occasions and always the same thing, beautiful sunrise but absolutely nothing going on in the sky. I woke up this particular morning expecting the same but instead I got this gorgeous sky. This photo was taken at sunrise, which was around 7:30 am in early November.Lighting
The lighting was just the beautiful natural light you find with a sunrise. I was in a bit of a panic this morning because I had gotten the time wrong on the sunrise and there was a good bit of light already out when I woke up. I had already picked the location I was going to shoot so grabbed my gear and ran out the door. I was a afraid I had already missed my opportunity but it turned out to be the perfect time. The way the sun was reflecting off the clouds and everything was reflecting in the water was just breathtaking. My favorite part is how the Eiffel Tower at Epcot is centered in the middle of the yellow part of the sunrise. I wish I could take credit for its placement there, but I was so excited about the clouds and the reflections that I didn't notice that part of the image until later!Equipment
This was shot handheld using a Canon EOS 7D with a Canon EF-S 10-22 Wide-Angle Lens. It was shot at 10mm and the camera settings were 1/160th sec at f3.5, ISO 100.Inspiration
As I stated earlier, I am almost completely self-taught when it comes to photography. I learned through videos, a lot of reading, and studying what other photographers were doing. I LOVE landscape photography and some of the images I was seeing of other photographer's work took my breath away. THAT is what inspired me to take this photo, or more accurately, chase the opportunity to take this photo. It really was just luck that brought me to this particular spot on this particular morning, but it was beautiful and peaceful and I really wanted to capture that.Editing
The main post-processing I did with this photo was enhance the color and contrast, which really made the clouds pop and the detail really come out on the wood walkway and the pier.In my camera bag
I normally carry a Canon EOS 7D and 4 lenses: my wide-angle Canon EF-S 10-22 for landscapes, my Tamron 150-600 for wildlife, my Tamron 90mm for macro photography and portraits, and my Tamron 16-300 as my catch-all carry around lens. I was planning on getting another mid-level zoom lens but I have been so pleased with the Tamron 16-300 that I haven't found the need. I also have a Benro tripod that I use for low light situations.Feedback
My advice for capturing something similar is to find someplace you would love to photograph and then show up morning after morning until you get the shot. I was lucky on this shot in that this was the only morning I was here. However, I have numerous sunrise shots at other locations that I went to multiple times before the light and the sky all did what I wanted them to do at the same time. I typically look at weather forecasts to get an idea of what the light and the sky might look like and even visit the area different times of the day to do test shots and find the perfect location. I am not a morning person so I also set up all my gear the night before to help out my morning foggy-brain, lol. So patience and preparation. That is my advice.
