I moved to a new house this past fall and it has a 4 acre pond and woods. I have never seen a Hooded Merganser and now there are at least 8 males and 4 females. This photo shows two male Hooded Mergansers tipping their heads back and "croaking" to attract a female. I was so excited to see them. They are a diving bird.
