Location
I took this photo at my house.Time
It was about noon.Lighting
I wanted to create a natural light Clair-obscur, so I choose a position close to the window and closed the curtains while letting the light in through a small opening in between.Equipment
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ100 and took this photo without any equipment. It is a selfie taken free out of hand.Inspiration
Because of Covid19 I couldn't go to the barbershop so my beard was bigger then ever before... My wife doesn't like a big beard but I had a good excuse. Just before having it cut I decided to take a selfie. I very much like the Clair-obscur portraits in black and white but never took one, a good reason to try it this time!Editing
The result of my experiment with the curtains didn't result in a satisfying contrast. To finish the portrait I used Lightroom, a perfect editing tool to come to a good end result! I enhanced the contrast and added some dark shades. In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...Feedback
If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realise what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition. Because I was planning a selfi, I just started to click and see what the result was. After some different trials I knew where I wanted to have my arm and the angle of my face for the right composition and lighting. Then I took some more shots with slightly different positions so I could choose the best one. After clicking a lot of times I opened my laptop, and the magic of today's digital world begun... I allways crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
