Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Amboseli in Kenya. Cranes are one of my favorite birds. While driving to Amboselithe guide told me, that we will see cranes and was so happy. I kept asking again and again, whether he would be sure that we will see cranes. We arrived at the park and yes, we saw cranes.

Time

It was around lunch time. It was not too sunny that day, perfect light.

Lighting

I took this photo at aperture f/4?ISO 125?shutter 1/640?

Equipment

I used a Nikon D 800, a 600 mm Nikon lens and a bean bag on the roof of a car.

Inspiration

I love cranes. I followed them to several places around Berlin, to Cambodia, Africa, New Mexico, Nebraska.Have not seen them yet in Japan, something I would love to do.

Editing

I cropped the photo a little.

In my camera bag

That varies a lot. I do not like zoom lenses and therefore take usually one specific lens. 600 mm for cranes and wildlife in Africa, macro for walks in the summer. One can always find a dragon fly, when one keeps looking for them For street photography my monochrome Leica.

Feedback

Patience. For bird photography one needs to be patient and observe nature sometimes for hours, days or even longer. Here it was easy, because the crowned cranes are not as shy as cranes in other parts of the world, where it can be a challenge to get close enough even with a long lens.
