Location
This photo was taken on the North Shore about 3 cliff side from Jaws. It is one of my favorite spots as the property is very remote so no traffic or much of anything else.Sitting high above the waters edge overlooking the east horizon of North shore Maui I can feel the breezes which are often brisk yet warm coming onshore.I was looking for those beautiful colors that show in Maui's sunset and sunrises. This shot was taken in between 2 major tropical storm so I got lucky on this one!Time
Like I said this was taken between two storms on a summer morning around 600-630am. I took many shots as the sun came peeking above the horizon and the scattered clouds above reflected the light and the colors beautifully. This is one of the locations that I can shoot and almost always the sun's reflection will lay across the oceans ripples as if I could walk right to it.Lighting
This is 100% natural morning glow, no need to add or do anything else!Equipment
This is handheld with the Sony A 7RII with a SEL 18-200mm F 3.5-6.3 lens.Just love this camera and still learning so much about it.Inspiration
I live here on Maui somewhere among the local of North shore! This Property has been sitting empty and zoned but as you can see no one wants to build here, why would they? The walk to get here is about 2 miles and well worth it. A spot I can take photos or just sit and take in the stellar view or meditate. I have sat here for 2-3 hours . A very serene place to take in all the elements, and feel an appreciation for our natural life.Editing
In any post processing I use Lightroom and Photoshop, Corel with Topaz plug in tools. This was a barely there post processing to highlight what is already there. In my camera bag
I primarily use the Sony A 7RII with a SEL 18-200mm F 3.5-6.3 lens. I also carry a backup , the Canon Rebel 5 but rarely use it anymore. Although the Canon is not my favorite, one never knows when I will need those lenses or the camera. It is always wise to carry MORE. In my backpack extras of everything including car chargers, plenty of batteries and memory cards as I shoot in RAW format.I carry also the tripod and monopod with me and an umbrella, flashlight..Always learning and so my equipment grows with it. I don't forget the business cards and ipad. I try to be prepared for any shot that captures my attention at any given time.Feedback
Patience! Almost always as many photographers know, being in the right place, right time, right light and always having the camera in hand is essential. With the love of taking surf shots and landscapes of Maui, there are no two sunrises every the same! I admit I am a bit spoiled as I am surrounded by this natural beauty all the time and can anticipate most of the time when and where except lately, this year. Climate is changing so I remain in awe of what sunrise will rise each new day. Practice, know your camera, and more practice to get to know your camera!! Get creative, get low, get high, shot in the dark, shade and sun, shot everything and then go with what feels right for YOU.Take risks and be different!
