Out of the 12.700 of planes built between 1936 to 1945, this plane experienced the most losses; over 8,000! In World War II, losses would continue until long range fighter escorts were built.

This Boeing bomber is one of thirteen airworthy B-17's. This photograph was taken at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach where extensive renovations were made. In June 2013, "Chuckie" was flown cross-country to the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon.
