Despite that this shot was taken from Buckingham Co., it represents Nelson County. This is from the Tye River Overlook.
Before I got to the overlook I read a trail marker which stated, "On the night of August 19th, 1969 the remnants of Hurricane Camille brought to Nelson County one of the heaviest rainfalls ever recorded on Earth.
The Tye River instantly flooded, sending its waters crashing into the James River just below the overlook. The James flowed upstream for 8 miles to Bent Creek. The storm took the lives of 123 people in Nelson alone ... some of whom were never found."
