Great composition and expression of the cat. Looks quite sad and hungry. Perfect detail.

Technically, this is an exceptional image; aesthetically, it is painful for me to look at.

I have the same feeling. But the shot is star quality in bringing over the pain. Even if I would have wished it would be impossible to take this photo anywhere in the world.

I like that you captured the essence of a huge problem in this photo ... the millions upon millions of homeless animals. I'm glad you brought this to everyone's attention

It was hard to look at this because I have a healthy flame point Siamese at home and it hurt my heart. But it is a fantastic photo but sad state that we throw away our animals as we do to people. Mary

Location
I took this photo in Setúbal, Portugal.Time
It was about two PM on a blazing hot summers day.Lighting
This photo was taken in a small shaded space in between white reflecting walls on a very sunny day, creating a strange light adding to the mood of this photo.Equipment
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ100, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has got a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket. I didn't use a tripod nor a flash.Inspiration
I saw this stray cat hiding from the sun in a dark corner of an old building block in the center of Setúbal. She didn't ran away but was very scared. I kneeled down and wanted to capture the tension of this beautiful cat just before fleeing. Her sad eyes struck me because of the wonderful blue color in combination with the dirty white wispy fur.I managed to take quite some photos without scaring her off.Editing
I did some post-processing in lightroom to ad some drama in the lighting and I sharpened a bit to emphasise the wispy fur.In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...Feedback
To capture an image like this is very simple, just look around you and be bewondered about the beautiful world we are living in. When I walk in a city or anywhere else, I allways look around me very carefully to see the details of wich the world around me is build up. I try to look through a pinhole, without forgetting the whole picture. When you are taking a photo of a subject on the ground, allways try to go down to a lower level. I was kneeling down to be able to shoot a photo from a low angle, it looks more natural and creates a better perspective in your photo. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realise what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you get home and open your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I allways crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them! Never disturb the animals and respect them. I allways look at the reaction of the animal I try to photograph, the moment she shows fear, I back of and leave her in peace.
