Location
This image was taken at a local Nature Reserve close to where I live in Devon, England. There are six turtles living in a large pond on the reserve. Although not native to the UK, these were originally pets that became unwanted & people have released them into wild ponds.Time
This was quite early in the day around 10am. The turtles emerge to warm up in the sun & are quite lethargic.Lighting
It was a bright morning with hazy sunlight. The turtle were emerging from the undergrowth into the daylight so lighting was not a problem.Equipment
I am a very lazy photographer & only ever carry a camera. At present that is a Panasonic Lumix FMC-DZ200. I like the fact that it is very versatile & lightweight.Inspiration
I was in a good position to get a good head shot. The turtle was just waking up & very slow so wasn't that bothered by my being there as usually they would quickly disappear into the water. I loved the colouring around his body & head.Editing
I little cropping but apart from that nothing else was needed. In my camera bag
I don't carry a bag, just my camera. As I said I'm such a lazy photographer & prefer to try to get a good shot without the need of lots of equipment.Feedback
Choose your timing! Study and know your subject. If I had waited for the sun to come out this little guy would have been in the water. Plan your shoot to give you the best advantage to get your shot.
