I was in my backyard late this past spring shooting some of the tiny flowers down amongst the clover and weeds (and a little grass too). While lying on the ground with my macro lens I also found a profusion of something else – VERY miniature oak tree seedlings just sprouting from their acorns. So here’s one.

Re the acorns– just FYI – we live on a wooded hillside (mostly oak and maple, and just a few hickory and hemlock). Our backyard ‘lawn’ has only couple tall oaks, and is ringed by maples, with the denser woods with taller oaks beyond. Most years it’s really alive with great color in the fall, and in the spring (when I finally do start cutting the lawn, I’m usually forced to mow down a lot of these sprouting acorns…
