Location
This is a wonderful monastery in Portugal. I took this photo in a must see place; Cabo Espichel.Time
It was at the end of the day about 5 pm in March, half an hour before sunset.Lighting
The sun was setting, just before the "Golden hour". Perfect for this photo because the sun was very low, causing a beautiful interaction between the earth colors of the monastery and the rich blue tones in the sky.Equipment
I took this photo with my little miracle Lumix DMC-TZ-100, an intelligent automatic pocket camera with a nice Leica lens. Easy to carry with you at any moment, it allmost fits in my back pocket.Inspiration
Cabo Espichel is a very special photogenic place in Portugal. The sun was setting and the light on this wonderful ancient monastery was just great! The sky as a background was just enough to emphasise the bareness of the mountain on which it was build. I was laying flat on the ground to put all the attention on the building! Many people were trying to take a photo and I had to wait until the right moment came along to take a photo without any people in the frame... I wanted this one to be a minimalistic one.Editing
I did very little post-processing, I cropped the photo and I played a little with the color intensities in Lightroom, that's all.In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand photography first...Feedback
The first and best advice I can give anybody is to be patient and wait until that one moment you are looking for comes around... But before you can lay down and wait to take the photo, you have to have an idea of what you want to achieve and where. Look when the light will be good and from what angle you want to take the photo. The right time of day and the right weather are important as well. Normally I shoot spontanious photos of things and situations that I come across but planning a shot is exciting as well! To add some drama to the scene, I choose to take the photo from a low point of view. I allways shoot a wider area to be able to crop the photo later into a nice composition. I like to edit and crop in different ways, so I can choose the best one the next day, when I can have a fresh look at them.
