Behind The Lens

Location

The young lady and man's hand was photographed in studio at my home and the interior of the building was taken at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.

Time

The time of day is not important to this image due to being indoor.

Lighting

I did what I could to match the lighting that was going on in the building scene to the lighting on the models.

Equipment

I used my canon xsi to photograph the building interior and my canon 70d to photograph the models and used strobes to light the models in a hopefully believable light.

Inspiration

I have been wanting to try to accomplish this type of image for a long time. I put a lot of thought into a project before trying to tackle it, and I was finally able to put together the time for the models to participate in this project.

Editing

I did a lot of post-production for this image. I photographed the young lady in two parts and piecing her together. First photographing her for the use of her left side with the strings while her brother held the strings up where I thought it might work and then photographing for the other side with her changing pose and she did very well keeping her head very close to where everything could piece together nicely. It turned out I didn't like where a couple of the strings were so it took me awhile to figure out how I wanted to fix the problem. I decided I would get rid of what was there by masking and the create lines with a tool that I can't quite remember what it was, but it worked well enough:)

In my camera bag

Always carry my canon xsi and 70d with two lenses, one a zoom other is wide angle.

Feedback

Think about how you are going to tackle a project with the thought of the final image always at hand. Most generally it will turn out differently than you expect, and sometimes better than expected.
