Location
This was taken at my place in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka on the 6th of July, 2012. I was just getting into photography.Time
This was taken around 11 o'clock in the morning. I was just walking around our front yard as usual, hoping to capture something interesting.Lighting
All natural light. Most of the time I shoot landscapes and wildlife. I just shoot my subject where I find it. I normally don't have time to fiddle with lighting equipment, especially when shooting critters like this. If you're not fast enough, you don't get the shot.Equipment
Very basic gear. Canon EOS Rebel T1i and a Sigma 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 APO DG Macro. Nothing else.Inspiration
I see something moving, I want to take a picture of it. Well, most of the times anyway. These little critters have incredible details and textures. It's hard not to notice. Hopefully, I'll get my first real macro lens soon.Editing
Nothing out of the ordinary. My regular post processing includes Adobe Camera RAW and Adobe Photoshop. Most of the times, just quick global adjustments and color balance, curves, and levels in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I've upgraded since I took this picture. Now I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF17-40mm f/4 L USM, EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 L IS USM. Hopefully the EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro soon (though I'm going to need a new bag.) Apart from that, 10 stop ND filter, two flashers, chargers, batteries, extra SD cards, the usual culprits.Feedback
I had a habit (I still do) of walking around my front yard with my camera. I did this everyday when I started photography. Now I do it whenever I have time. Even if it's the same location that I've literally seen since birth, I still get some keepers once in a while and I get to practice my craft. So I highly encourage you to get out and start shooting instead of just waiting for your dream exotic shooting location because when you finally get to that location, you need to be able to shoot!
