Location
This shot is of Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada from the walkway, which makes it way right to the edge of the falls.Time
The picture was taken early in the morning around 7 or 8 AM during sun rise in January. Needless to say it was freezing. Everything was frozen solid around us because of the mist sticking to everything it touches. I had about 5 or six shots between lens cleaning.Lighting
Sunrise on Niagara Falls from the Canadian side is something spectacular. As shown on the image, the sun rises right in front of you and really illuminates the mist from the falls and river.Equipment
I had a Nikon D600 with a 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 wide angle lens, using a Vanguard tripod and ball head. The picture was taken using a remote trigger.Inspiration
My wife and I decided to take a weekend getaway to Niagara Falls for some spa and casino and I was wanting to take this exact sunrise picture since arriving there on friday. I scoped out each morning but couldn't get the right conditions until Sunday morning about 2 hours before leaving back home. I love long exposure pictures of water and I couldn't leave before capturing the best water scape in Canada.Editing
Post-processing involved a combination of Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Color Efex Pro. The efforts I put on this picture was to boost clarity and vibrance as well as tonal contrast. In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D600 with 3 lens; a 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5, 105mm f/2.8 macro, and a 50mm f/1.8. I also lug polarizer and ND10 filters, a spare battery, couple SD cards and a remote trigger. Other accessories include a rain cover, screw driver, lens wipes, eye cap cover, and some lens hoods.Feedback
If you have the luxury of being at the same place for long periods of time, I recommend scoping out your shots for ideal locations as well as times of day. You can yield some awesome shots if your patient.
