This was taken in Galle Fort, Sri Lanka.Time
This was taken on the 5th of March, 2011 at ~4:20 p.m. It's pretty neat that this picture becomes a finalist exactly 6 years after it was taken.Lighting
A bit harsh light diffused by a small cloud cover. Not the "perfect light" but what can you do in a case like this?Equipment
My old camera body, Canon Rebel T1i and the Sigma 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 APO DG Macro.Inspiration
In Galle Fort, Sri Lanka, there are these kids who jumps off of the cliff to entertain visitors. Sometimes they make a living out of it. While I was there in 2011, I saw this kid was getting ready to jump off of the cliff and luckily I had my 300mm on, but unfortunately not a tripod.Editing
Nothing other than a simple gray-scale conversion. The colors looks a bit washed out due to harsh lighting. So I figured it would look better in B/W.In my camera bag
Quite a lot has changed since I took this picture. Now I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III + EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM + 24-105mm f/4.0L IS USM + EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro + EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6L IS USM. I normally carry the macro and the 17-40mm most of the time.Feedback
I've learned a lot since this picture. I would've probably taken a series of pictures instead of just one. But then again, when an opportunity presents itself, just be ready to take at least one shot.
