Behind The Lens

Location

I am a self taught photographer. I was driving up to Kula, Maui when I captured this beauty. These sunsets are meditative and mesmerizing leaving you with an overwhelming sense of connectedness to all nature. This photo taken from upcountry of the west side of the island as many beautiful sunsets are easily captured from this side.

Time

This was taken in the Summer of 2015 around 6pm. I drove up to beautiful Kula on the side of the road to capture this one. It is a matter of being in the right place at the right time

Lighting

The lightening was completely natural with no tricks or editing needed. I pride myself in capturing the most natural settings that Maui Hawaii reveals.

Equipment

This photo was actually taken with a Cannon EOS Rebel T5 and with a 18-55mm/f3.5 lens.I normally do not use or need a tripod but I have one with me just in case.

Inspiration

Maui's landscape inspires me and I have taken thousands of photos over the last 9 years to capture her true beauty with all her changing displays. It gives a great timeline of all the changes and how nature speaks to us.Here on Maui most of the photographers know it is mainly being in the right place at the right time.In whatever location, she(Maui) will reveal all its slender and beauty for all those who seek it

Editing

This photo is in most natural state and no post processing was needed. I pride myself in the fact many scenes and photos do not required post editing.

In my camera bag

I always carry my camera with me wherever I go. I had a nikon DX40 I used but now stick to this Cannon EOS Rebel T5. The lenses I have now are 18-55mm/f3.5 and the zoom 75-300mm.THis camera captures these scenes well with little effort once you know your way around the camera. I also carry a Hero3 Gopro for action shots, underwater scenes or capturing water shots that require this kind of extreme sports camera.I have rarely taken a "bad" shot with this camera.

Feedback

On Maui one can never know what she is going to reveal in her beautiful scenes day to day, month to month, year to year.Often hour to hour Maui will reveal it beauty in different locations. I have learned the times of sunsets, sunrises, when and where, the surf swells and where the best possible locations will be.I consider the driving time and patience needed to wait for that perfect moment like this one
