Location
This picture was taken at a company house in Blanco, Texas. Blanco is about 50 miles west of Austin and pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I call the house/location: The house in the middle of BFE". If you don't know what BFE means, find a military person and ask him/her. This being my favorite picture, I spent a good amount of money to print (18"X24") and professionally mount in a custom frame (24"X34") -- It looks amazing over the fireplace!Time
Since this house is in the middle of nowhere and the fences are a good distance off, wildlife regularly runs through the property. We would see animals such as deer and rabbits mainly during the early morning hours and early evenings. This picture was take in the evening as I was hoping to get a few wildlife shots. It had rained earlier that evening and the sun was on its way down. As many know, at times when the sun gets lower it gets larger and the colors can explode in the sky. I caught this sunset, post thunderstorm, just right.Lighting
The contrast between the sky, clouds, and the sun and it's rays enable me to capture this eerier but amazingly beautiful sunset. I knew when I took it that I might have caught the lighting just right. However, I didn't know for sure until I loaded it on my PC to view and that's when I knew I had that special shot. Well, good enough to mount on my living room wall. LOLEquipment
I shot it with my Nikon D80 that I have had for over 12 years. The lens I used was a Quantaray 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3, the only lens I have had, until recentlyInspiration
I can't really say anything inspired me directly, just the desire to take some photos of one thing, wildlife, and then turned into shooting the landscape. No deer running around that evening.Editing
Using my photo editor I just brought out some of the shading, colors and highlights. I totally loved the way the sun-enhanced cloud edges just popped along with the sunrays! To me this is what a post-nuclear sunset would look like.In my camera bag
For years all I had was my Nikon D80 and my Quantaray 18-200mm lens. But these days I have added two more lens: Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED and Nikon AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 85mm f/3.5g ED VR. I also carry a Nikon Flash, and other misc. equipment. In the future I will be purchasing either a Nikon D750 or an D810.Feedback
I do not think that I have the knowledge to give advice, since I am an armature learning myself. But I will say this: when you have a plan to take a specific type of picture certainly be open to what other types of pictures you just might take instead. Especially if your plan doesn't work out. You never know what you might produce.... I am a total Amateur Photographer with a Professional Desire. "Seeing something beautiful is special. Capturing that special something is priceless!" ~jkh~ (I came up with this after I hung this picture over the fireplace)
