Location
At the wetlands of Bolsa Chica, closet to Huntington Beach, a wonderful pale fro bird watching.Time
This photo was taken in the morning on a bright day in CaliforniaLighting
The light in this part of the world is somewhat harsh, aggressive, even in the winter, which allows for short exposure.Equipment
I used my Nikon D4, a Nikon lens ( 80-400mm), no tripod, no flashInspiration
I love pelicans. I had never seen brown pelicans so close in my life. I was fascinating by their beauty, elegance and speed. I watched them for quite some time fishing under a little bridge. I took many photos , of course.Editing
Very little cropping in lightroomIn my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon D4, sometime my D800 as well. In the summer I always carry a macro lens, just in case, one might come across a dragon fly. For birdwatching I take at times my Nikon 600mm lens, that limits the walking distance a little, because in addition to the lens, one needs to schlepp a heavy tripod. But it is my favorite lens.Feedback
Patience, waiting for the right light, the right tide, the right bird, the right action. As all nature photos it takes time, being at the right time at the right place and always be ready, because you never know, when the action happens.
