This photograph just POPS! It's beautiful in so many ways. This looks like an HDR photograph. If it is, it's nicely done. The vast majority of HDR pictures I've seen are terrible. They are so over the top it ruins the image, but this one is nicely composed and brought out. I applaud your talents Nina.

It's fun seeing yours and Mark's pictures of the same thing and the different aspect each of you give it - both super, but different
And thank you for all the veterans I've know from my daddy on down to my son!

Congratulations another awesome photo You totally rocked this one. I also love the dedication too, Knowing your late husband was an Air Force Silver Star winner and that your father and brother were both Military Veterinarian It just makes it that much more meaningful. They would be proud to see you dedicated this light house photograph to them and those that have picked up the torch of freedom. Mark

Location
This photo was taken in early November 2015 at the Point Arena coastal monument which is situated along the rugged Mendocino County coastline in northern California.Time
Taken at about 4:00 p.m., the "golden hour" was rapidly approaching and turning the clouds that had been present all day into a layer of soft, warm sunset colors.Lighting
This particular day turned out to be a great one for photography as the sky was literally covered in an expansive layer of puffy clouds the entire day that allowed for wonderful filtered lighting, and as late afternoon approached it became apparent that there was going to be a beautiful soft sunset.Equipment
This shot was taken handheld using my new Nikon D750 full frame camera with a Nikkor 70-300mm f4.5-f5.6 zoom lens and polarizing filter. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I have a passion for landscape photography, especially oceans and sunsets, and the California coast provides infinite opportunities for both. This particular stretch of the northern coastline with its protected natural resources provides spectacular and unspoiled views for a variety of photo ops of rugged coastal bluffs, lighthouses, sea arches and rocky offshore sea stacks, tide pools, sandy beaches and wildlife. The whole area is a wonderful venue for landscape and ocean photography!Editing
Lightroom and Photoshop CS6 were both utilized for minimal enhancement of color, exposure correction, contrast and clarity. In my camera bag
I have recently upgraded to a Nikon D750 full frame camera with a Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 lens. My newest lens that I find extremely versatile is a Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom. I always have 2 64gb memory cards in my camera, with a spare 32gb card in my bag as a backup, as I shoot in both Raw and jpg Fine. Additionally, I always carry a fully charged spare battery and battery charger, UV and polarizing filters for all lenses, a Tiffen variable ND filter, the Cokin filter system, a lightweight carbon fiber tripod, and cleaning supplies.Feedback
Landscape photographers often have the advantage of returning to a particular location at different times of the day (or night) in order to capture a scene under different lighting or weather conditions. However, since you can't always count on a sunset, there is a lot of luck involved as well. Shooting ocean scenes either early in the morning or in the later afternoon almost always, in my opinion, provide the absolute best lighting, which in turn reduces the amount of post processing that would otherwise be required to make an average photo into a great photo.
