Location
At that time of this photo, I was taking a photography class as an extra credit course in my Bachelors degree in Game Design Development. I don't have a studio (yet), so I had to use my surroundings. Work with what you got right? I set this particular scene up on my kitchen counter in my home. The awesome thing is, is that you can't even tell. I think that's kind of neat. I pretty much covered my entire counter up with mirrors to add a reflection.Time
Since I don't have my own studio, I had to use natural lighting. (Which I love!) For this scene, I needed to wait until dark to get the right amount of light in order to get the effect I was looking for. Funny enough, I remember the time being early fall, 2013 around ten to eleven P.M. I am quite the night owl now.Lighting
This was during my early stages of photography. I was still learning and didn't have much equipment to work with. I didn't even have an external flash. I had to use what was around me. So I gathered different types of lamps, bulbs and stands. Literally anything I could find. I knew I wanted to achieve a glamorous look. I placed down a bunch of 10x10 mirrors, crystals and small battery powered tea lights. This is also what helped achieve the bokeh effect. I was quite pleased with the outcome considering all I had was just my camera and a lens. It also taught me a good lesson. You can achieve almost anything if you put your heart and mind to it.Equipment
I shot "Phantom Mask" with a Canon Rebel T3, and a 50 mm lens. No tripod. No flash. Oh, I also had a step latter because I am short.Inspiration
This photo of the "Phantom Mask" is very dear and near to my heart. This mask belonged to my grandmother who passed away three years ago. This photo represents her in so many ways. She was beautiful, kind, and a woman with lots of class. This mask has been passed down to me and I wanted to find a way to share it with everyone. I think I have finally accomplished that. Here's to you Mimi!Editing
I always want to make sure that I am shooting in camera RAW. I shoot in camera RAW so I can get the highest quality image files and for non-destructive editing. Once I get the images I love, I begin my post-processing. I first started out using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop. In Bridge I used basic editing tools. I mainly used these for white balancing, sharpening, and the extra contrast to give it a pop. Today I have taken the opportunity to learn Adobe Lightroom. I personally enjoy Lightroom a lot more.In my camera bag
Funny enough, my camera bag is pretty much my purse. It always has been. I love taking any opportunity I can get to take a picture. My camera rarely leaves my side. At the time of this particular photo, all I had in my camera bag was my Canon Rebel T3 and my 50mm lens. This was all I had to work with. Well, I also had a few lens cloths and maybe my lipstick. Today, I have changed my gear completely. I am currently using an Olympus OMD EMF 5 Mark II, and I absolutely love it. I acquired this beauty over the summer. Since then, I now have a 45mm lens, a 60mm macro lens, and a 12-22 wide-angle lens. My collection is still growing.Feedback
The advice I would give is to not limit yourself only on your equipment. Snap as many shots as you can. Always take the opportunity to learn as much as you can and to push yourself 110%. Don't ever stop learning. Ever!
