Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photograph of the couple's rings at the bride's home directly following consultation and discussion of her wedding day.Time
I photographed in the evening when the room was dark.Lighting
The lighting was created by using a small, dim flash light and long shutter speed to capture more light.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel xsi, 18-55mm lens, flash light, a black sheet, my tripod, and ribbon for prop.Inspiration
The ribbon was part of her decoration for the reception that I wanted to incorporate with their rings. I am a fan of using long shutter speed and light painting to enhance only a portion of the subject for a more dynamic effect. I used the same technique to photograph the bride's dress, and other decorations and important items that were incorporated in the wedding.Editing
I did a little bit of post-processing for this image. I brightened the diamonds, and reduced the amount of red and blue in the rings. The silver ribbon also needed some help. It looked more gold than it actually is, so I reduced the orange and yellow sliders to bring back the correct color of the ribbon. In my camera bag
I always carry my Canon Rebel xsi, 18-55mm lens, 75-300mm lens, extra sd cards, and my tripod.Feedback
My advice to capture light painting photographs is to take several shots of the same setup, move props around, shoot from different angles, change light perspective often, and have fun with it. I know I do:)
