Location
This image was taken in Lemhi Co. Idaho. The Sacajawea Interpretive Center.Time
This was taken just as the sun set, during a photo shoot with the local photography club. This was early fall, during what we call "fire season"! We very seldom have colorful sunsets like this, in the mountains of central Idaho.Lighting
I set up early to grab different settings to make sure I had the right "feel" to the shot. I am self taught, so not everything works all the time, when under the gun. I used off camera flash to light the interior, and used the shade setting for white balance.Equipment
This was made with a Nikon D300. I used a tripod and cable release. SB900 and SB600 flash units. I used the SU800 for flash control. I used the Nikon 18-55 kit lens.Inspiration
I have seen many other images like this. I wanted to make one of my own. I have shot this image many times early, and late. This was a very special evening. As I have said, spectacular sunsets are limited in the mountain areas.Editing
This was edited totally in Adobe Lightroom. I removed some unwanted objects. Various burn and dodge areas as well.In my camera bag
I have the 2 kit lenses 18-55mm 4.5, 70-300mm 4.5. I also have a Tonica 28-80mm 2.8 lens. SB900 flash w/gels. SU800 flash control and a Radiopopper flash control set as well. I use a few basic lens filters as well.Feedback
Practice on everything. Knowing your cameras menus and setting locations is a very important skill. Fumbling around during "prime time" can be very frustrating and disappointing.... Always shoot raw format, get all the info you can in your image file. RELAX and have fun....
