Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at home. I'm self taught so I have many mis-takes! I would come home from day job and the grandson would be playing in the dining room. I tried several times to get this image, but wasn't fast enough before he came crawling to see me.

Time

This was made in the evening. I had left the camera in the settings from the previous settings I had used. Old Nikon D40.

Lighting

From previous attempts I realized that the silhouette would be the best image. Just natural light inside.

Equipment

Nikon D40 with the 55-200, 4.5 kit lens...

Inspiration

He loved to try to pet the cat and was fascinated. I thought it would make a good photo for his grandma!

Editing

This was processed in an early version of LightRoom. I tried a few different "looks" and settled on this. It is a cream tone preset tweeked and desaturated.

In my camera bag

Nikon D300, SB-900, 18-55mm nikon. 70-300mm nikon (my workhorse), Tikona 28-70, f/2.8. Filters

Feedback

Be aware and quiet. Once he heard the second shutter click, the jig was up, and he came as fast as he could go!
