I took this photo in the Monument Valley - Navajo ReserveTime
It was very early, I guess around 6.30 AM in late AprilLighting
I love early morning light and of course the late afternoon one. I as well love the light after a heavy rain or storm. These situations allow you to avoid the usage of any filters in front of your lens.Equipment
I used a Nikon D600 with the Nikon 24-70mm f 2,8. No tripod, handheld.Inspiration
Well the Monument Valley - Navajo Reserve I think is a must for every landscape/nature photographer. I spent 3 days there and I enjoyed several different areas and spots. For sure I will go back one day, any corner could be a fabulous spot for a great pic.Editing
I don't do much post - processing. I mainly use Adobe Camera Raw and few plug-ins. I prefer to control the composition on the field, than on my desk with my Mac. I normally control the contrast and the color enhance in ACR.In my camera bag
It depends by the trip. Recently I'm using two Nikon D810 with the 24-70mm f 2,8 and the 70-200mm f 2,8 VRII. I always carry with me the Manfrotto 055CX PRO4 Tripod with an Acratech head ball. I carry extra batteries, filters and remote shutter release. I like to carry a prime wide angle like a 18 mm and if I have enough space the 500mm f8 Mirror lens. Modern sensor and this type of lens create a very artistic effect.Feedback
My main advice is to experiment new techniques and try to compose differently from what you normally see on the web or magazines. As wrote above, early morning or late afternoon light could be your best natural filter. Of course being able to afford a trip in such great place, like the Monument Valley is a big help!
