Location
This photo was taken from Paku Hill, Tairua on the Coromandel, New Zealand.Time
On my way to interview a bride (whose wedding I was shooting that month) I saw this scene and raced to capture the rainbow! It was fairly late in the morning but the light was still spectacular with the overhead clouds and dazzling rainbow display.Lighting
I didn't have any control over the lighting but capturing the RAW file meant I could retrieve all the information I wanted to show the scene as I was seeing it.Equipment
My equipment was my trusty Nikon D700 with 50mm f/1.8 @ f7. No need for any other equipment except my feet which had to run up a hill!Inspiration
I am constantly inspired by lighting and nature and am always on the look-out for magic moments like these. If the quality of the image is up-to-scratch I go on to develop it as a photograph. If it's substandard I will often use the resource for my oil paintings.Editing
I often use Nik Color Efex Pro after initially developing in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I usually carry my Nikon D700 and 50mm f/1.8. If I am on a "mission" I will carry my Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens and 14-24mm f2.8 (I use both of these when shooting weddings). A lot depends on what I am planning to shoot and the time of day.Feedback
I normally discount the hours in the middle of the day as the lighting isn't as good but in this case I'm glad I shot anyway. If the timing permits, take a number of different exposures and angles.
