Thank you. Not the sort of photo I thought would see the light of day (no pun intended) but with View Bug all sorts of photos suddenly become relevant and get shared.

Thank you. I am forever out amongst my lovely ewes taking photos and they have just had lambs - I even photographed the birth process LOL

Personally, I think this is simply stunning; the lighting a photographers dream & many well-deserved congrats. Who cares if it's a sheep or a goat... it'll still taste good!

Thank you and I have to say the last sentence made me laugh. Actually it's a Ewe that has since produced another Ewe for us...the table can wait for this little lady :-)

With the glut of crisp imaging cameras today, the historic and proven rules of art have migrated from such things as the power of the Rule of Thirds to tons of symmetry. Center spot, center slice as with horizon right through the middle, either vertically or horizontally. I really like this off-center, side lit subject with the eyes at the upper right intersection and nose and lower line of sunlight on lower right intersection. Beautifully done.

Hahaha thank you. She's a darling ewe and so friendly. She has been unwell lately so I'm hoping she pulls through OK.

Location
When we bought our lifestyle property I had imagined wandering amongst our lambs and livestock but I couldn't imagine how much this particular Ewe would endear herself to me. I spend many hours just watching her and scratching her floppy ears as he came to us tame and very affectionate. She is the perfect poser!Time
This is taken late afternoon as the sun was hovering over the horizon and turning everything to gold! Obligingly UnEwesual bowed down at the perfect angel to capture this light.Lighting
The golden hour is amazing for photos!Equipment
I used a handheld D700 with 70-200mm f2.8 lens at 200mm focal length, 1/400 at 2.8.Inspiration
I couldn't resist the light so the shots were fired and this was my favourite!Editing
I post processed in lightroom, cropped and enhanced exposure etc. I also ran it through Colorefex pro from Nik to enhance the detail a bit.In my camera bag
Lately I carry around my D700 most of the time with my 50mm lens (especially if I am travelling).Feedback
If you want to capture animals it is great to buy a Ewe like this one :-) Seriously it's a matter of being at the right spot at the right time and knowing how to set the camera, especially if the subject is fast moving. Take lots of shots and watch out for those magic moments when the light gives everything a surreal quality. It is one of my greatest joys just to wander amongst our animals in the late afternoon and capturing their wonderful characters and faces on camera. I guess the most important thing is to look, look, look and develop your observational skills...see what moves you as this will help you develop your own style.
