What a cute girl and I can see your reflection in her eye. Thanks for adopting her.

Yes she is very special, our other dog is a little jealous but they are typical of a "blended" family ;-)

Location
Most days my lovely Sarah (she came pre-named) comes into my office to let me know she is still around. When I took this photo she was still suffering separation anxiety from her previous family but she looked so trusting as she gazed at me this particular day, I was thankful my backup camera was sitting on my desk ready to shoot.Time
This was taken at around midday and the light from the windows captured her beautiful brown eyes, giving subtle catch lights and there am I sitting in the reflection in the pupil.Lighting
The lighting was great but the surrounds were very untidy (being my very disorganized office) so I used the adjustment brush and the graduated filters in Lightroom (in the latest version of Lightroom I'd use the radial filter) to reduce exposure and the distractions in the background.Equipment
This was shot on my D300s, handheld at ISO400, with my 35mm f1.8 lens, f2.4 aperture.Inspiration
I am enticed by faces; human, animal it doesn't matter but especially eyes that look like deep pools - and my beautiful Jack Russell has the prettiest eyes of all. I shot at 2.4 to give a very shallow depth of field, putting all the emphasis on those puppy-dog-peepers.Editing
Apart from the exposure alteration to the background I also ran the whole photo through Nik software detail extraction and removed her collar in Photoshop (it was too much of a distraction). In my camera bag
I normally carry my Nikon D700 and D300s (sadly the latter camera was stolen from me recently and I miss it like crazy). My favorite lenses are my 75-200mm Nikon f2.4 and my Nikon 14 - 24mm f2.4 wide angle lens. These would more than cover most scenarios with my shooting and if they don't then I just move around a lot more.Feedback
Don't take for granted the opportunities that present themselves in your everyday life. I am often guilty of not seeing what is in my face but if you take a moment and keep your camera ready there will be some precious moments you will capture for the future.
