Location
The photo was taken at The Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.Time
This would been about mid-afternoon. We were at the gardens all day dodging the raindrops.Lighting
The day was overcast (hence the raindrops on the flower) so I think it helped with the color and bokeh. If it had been naturally sunnier the color might not have looked so stunning.Equipment
This was taken with my Canon XTi with my fantastic f/2.8 macro lens. It is a seriously awesome lens! It was a hand-held shot (I'm terrible about wanting to lug around a tripod!).Inspiration
How could I not be inspired to shoot a flower so beautiful?? A blue poppy? I'd never seen the like and still have never seen another blue poppy. Right time, right place.Editing
Very little post-processing. I think I sharpened it a little bit in PhotoShop. I'm not a PhotoShop expert so most of what I post has minimum editing. In my camera bag
I recently upgraded my camera body to a Canon 5D Mark III and unfortunately my favorite f/2.8 macro lens that took this shot is no longer compatible. Wah! So I have my trusty 35mm lens and a 70-300. I've got to get a new macro lens!Feedback
Shoot, shoot and then shoot some more! When it comes to flowers I find that I like to shoot a lot so that I have a lot to choose from in the end. And if you're lucky and its been raining, get those water drops on the flowers! And then try to find an unusual angle if possible. And bokeh, I like f/2.8 the best for that.
