Congratulations on being voted by viewbug followers as the winner of my challenge "The view that took your breath away". Voting, when it's your own competition is really tough. It also made my top 3

Stunning capture. Beautiful landscape shot with the snow and colors of the trees. Excellent POV and DOF. Love the light effects. Cloudy days often make the best photos. Everything is calm and peaceful.

Location
The photo was taken on the road from Queenstown to Twizel. It is the Wairepo Arm of Lake Ruataniwha on the South Island of New Zealand.Time
It was taken around 11:30 in the morning.Lighting
It was a very overcast day so it was quite dark for the middle of the day.Equipment
This was taken with my old camera a Canon 10D, with a 28 to 90mm lens set at 28mm. No tripod or flash was used.Inspiration
We were driving along and almost everywhere was white. When we saw this with all the orange in the trees, it stood out a mile, so we pulled over to take some shots.Editing
I auto-colour corrected it in Photoshop as it was a very flat photo due to the lighting, but no other enhancements have been made.In my camera bag
I usually carry my current camera (Canon 60D), latest lens (18-200mm) and a heap of memory cards so I always have enough for that extra shot. Recently I purchased 10-20mm lens and an extension tube and they have both been added to the carry everywhere items.Feedback
I think more than anything, a lot of luck was involved in capturing this photo. New Zealand had the most snow it had received in over 60 years and I would think that scenes like this don't occur too often. In general though, I think I would try and get a little more depth of field into the photo some of the background is a little on the blurry side. I had it set to f/9.5. On the other hand it may just have been the camera was too cold; it was -7c when it took this photo. I often wonder what this would have looked like if the sun out and there was blue sky in the background. Whether that would have made it better or worse
