This photo was taken on a day trip to Melbourne Zoo, with my wife and daughter.Time
We set off from home around 7:30 to catch the train in to Melbourne, then out to the zoo, the only problem was the train was cancelled so we ended up driving and arrived at the zoo just before 9:00. We got to the tigers enclosure around 9:30 and the sun was just peeking through the clouds.Lighting
It was a fairly overcast day and the sun kept going behind the clouds. I had quite a few photos that I had composed only to have the sun come out and over expose the shot, or it to go behind a cloud and under expose it.Equipment
The photo was shot on my Canon 60D, using a Tamron 150-600 mm lens at 600mm. As I didn't have my tripod with me it was a hand held shot.Inspiration
I have always loved tigers, they are one of my favourite animals and every time I go to the zoo I always stop by to take at least a few photos.Editing
The only processing I did was to auto-balance it in Photoshop Elements. In my camera bag
Since getting my new camera bag, I carry my Canon 60D, 18-200mm & 50mm Canon lenses, 10-20mm Sigma lens, 150-600 Tamron lens and a 1.5x extension tube. I usually have a shutter release and a couple of filters, (circular polarising & graduated neutral density).Feedback
Patience, is the best advice I can give for taking this type of shot. I spent 15 minutes at the tiger enclosure and took over 50 shots to get this one. They seldom sit/stand still for more than a few seconds.
