Location
This photo is a combination of two different locations. The background waterfall was taken at well known park a town over from where I live which last I checked, looked as if it has run dry. The subject, which is actually me, was taken in my driveway with a huge backdrop behind me since I did not have the space anywhere else to set it up at the time. It was a pretty interesting day.Time
This is image one of my all time favorites for so many reasons but one is because of how cold it was. For both parts of the image it was midday and overcast weather but it was right at the beginning of November and very chilly. I was surprised at how well I dealt with the cold considering I was barefoot and in a strapless dress. The outtakes from this shoot are pretty hysterical.Lighting
All of the lighting was just natural light. It was an overcast day so the clouds acted as a nice diffuser and allowed for exactly the kind of tone I was looking for with this image.Equipment
Equipment used was a Nikon D40 with the kit lens with a remote trigger, Manfrotto tripod, and backdrop kit.Inspiration
I had always wanted to photograph a dream series but when it came time for me to do so, I realized that I actually don't dream, I have Nightmares. And so this was the first finished photograph in my Nightmare series.Editing
This is a composite image. This is actually one of the first composites I have ever really done and was really excited. I had wanted to do this for the entire Nightmare series. It is comprised of more than just the 2 images you would initially think. This was a whole new style I was trying altogether and I couldn't have been happier with it. There is also some texture added in which was something totally new for me as well.In my camera bag
I honestly don't carry anything too "fancy". I live by the fact that its not the camera that makes the photographer. Although, if I could have a newer camera, I'd probably get one. I carry with me, my Nikon D40, and its kit lens. Its charger of course and extra SD cards just in case.Feedback
More than anything I'd say, make sure you know your basics. If you have a solid foundation of knowledge and how to use your camera you will be set. But make sure you continue to learn as well. In this industry you never stop learning. Now, of course most of the creation of this image was done in Photoshop, and this is something I learned in college but I was inspired by Brooke Shaden who is completely self taught. So as long as you have the determination, you will be able to create anything you wish.
