Location
This was taken at Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT.Time
It was probably early afternoon.Lighting
The lighting is natural.Equipment
At the time I was using a Nikon D40 and a 18-55mm lens. Pretty standard.Inspiration
They had a viewing tank and the beluga kept squishing his head up against it to make people laugh so I couldn't resist capturing that.Editing
I did remove some marks and reflections on the glass and added some contrast. I feel like doing so really allows the viewer to feel like they're there with the beluga. In my camera bag
At that time it was basically my camera, sd cards, battery charger, and lens cleaner. Now a days I also carry another lens or 2 and an extra battery. I also now use a Nikon d5600 instead of the d40.Feedback
This image took some patience because I had seen the beluga doing this but then he stopped, so I waited to see if he'd do it again and sure enough he did and I was able to capture it. So my advice, have patience and the right image will come along. I'm also a firm believer that it's not the camera that makes the photo, but the photographer. I used a Nikon d40 for this which is fairly outdated but I knew how to use it to capture the image I wanted. Don't ever think that your equipment is holding you back. Make the best of it.
