Location
I took this photo in Lisbon, Portugal.Time
It was about 3 PM.Lighting
The light was difficult because this patio had a lot of shadow and some very sunny sides as well in the same photo. I had to capture this special moment very quickly because the pigeon only had this pose for a second. I have done some adjustments in Lightroom to get a good result.Equipment
I have a Lumix DMC-TZ100, all my photos are taken with this little miracle of a camera...The best thing about this camera is that it has a good Leica lens and it is very easy to carry with you because it practically fits in your back pocket. I didn't use any extra equipment, I took the photo spontaneously free out of hand.Inspiration
This photo was completely coincidental because the pigeon landed in the wrong place and the cat was sleeping. Too surprised to react, the cat was looking quite silly and the pigeon leaned forward to see the hazardous situation it had come into and flew away! This is a good example of how a photo can show the opposite of the truth... it looks like they are friends in this split second. I was lucky to have the camera in my hand and clicked a few times.Editing
I did some post-processing in Lightroom to get the light balance well enough. There were a lot of highlights because I didn't have the time to get good settings. It was just point and shoot! In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand how it works first...Feedback
To capture an image like this is all about being aware of your surrounding and react quickly to a situation. Just look around you and be bewondered about the beautiful lively world we are living in, see the possibilities for a nice capture behind every corner. When I walk through a city or anywhere else, I always look around me very carefully to see the details of which the world around me is build up. I try to look through a pinhole, without forgetting the whole picture. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realize what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... In this case I saw the pigeon flying down to the cat and I realized this was a point and shoot photo and took some photos directly after each other. The whole scene lasted for seconds and only one photo looked like the two were real good friends. The truth was the cat was too surprised to react at that moment and the pigeon left very quickly after it realized where it landed. So in this case no planning... Once you get home and open your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I always crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
