A very dark lit photo exhibition of the "Nature Photographer of the year" in Knokke, that's Belgium.Time
Midday.Lighting
While walking around in the dark hall, this with hardly enough good lighting on the photo's (pieces of art), we where pleased to see some natural light coming from a long vertical window. I suggested to my friend Gilbert that he could perhaps stand in that light so I could try to take a portrait of him. This because I hardly ever take portraits of people... I 'm looking forward to doing this more in the future, but until now, I have been more of a candid style shooter in the past. And I new he would gladly pose for me, as he feel's its about time I started to find the courage and guts to get close to people to photograph them. So, this was only meant to be a snapshot memory (and a little experiment) of our little trip we made that cloudy but interesting day.Equipment
I tried not to bring a camera for our visit to the exhibition, but as a lot of the time, I ended up taking just my beloved Fuji XPRO-2 and the fast, light and sharp 23mm 2.0. in a handbag. Nice and compact with lovely image quality! You never know what one might see...Inspiration
As my friend Gilbert has encouraged me a lot, I felt that I had his trust and permission And perhaps the nearly perfect light condition for a portrait. I knew I could or might have and create enough 'bokeh' and loved the fact that the background was totally mat black. As I 'm looking forward to take more 'personal' photo's of friends and fellow-humans. Until now I felt I had to learn the technique in a natural way, step by step, learning from my mistakes before making 'the big leap' to this type of photography.Editing
This image was taken in JPG and only slightly processed in LR. A suitable 4/3 crop was made. I added a slight vignet to be sure the outer parts where absolute black. No local modifying, but I think I did sharpen the image just slightly. In my camera bag
My equipment does vary a lot, all depending on the type of photography and the light conditions. Most gear is from "Fuji", two bodies and a range of lenses. Not long ago I bought a handy all-in-one Sony RX10 III that seems to be chosen a lot of the time... But I do prefer the handling feel and the results of my Fuji gear.Feedback
As this type of photography is completely new for me, I can only advice people to experiment and enjoy photography in all it's aspects. Don't give up, keep looking what can be done better...
