Location
This photo was taken during a boat safari in the Kabini Backwaters in the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve of Karnataka.Time
The photo was taken in the evening and slightly against the light.Lighting
Since it was evening, the directional light helped light up the fish and the water drops from behind, adding some drama to the photo.Equipment
This photo was taken handheld with a Nikon D5 and AF-S Nikkor 600mm F/4G ED VR, the super fast autofocus of the combination locked focus on the fish in the perfect composition. Focusing was tricky as the boat was constantly moving due to the water currents.Inspiration
The day was almost coming to and end when I noticed this Darter swimming across the river with the fish it had just caught. Always expecting action in the forest, I was ready and as soon as the fished made one final attempt at escaping, i managed to get the shot I wanted.Editing
I think wildlife photos should involve only the basic post-processing such as fixing colours, white-balance, sharpness, etc. a little of which was applied here as well.In my camera bag
I usually have main bag carrying my Nikkor 600mm and the D4s. In this case I had rented the Nikon D5. The second bag contains my Nikon D3s, which is another excellent camera for really low light situations. I usually rent out any of the following lenses, the Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8 and Nikkor 80-400mm tocompliment the 600mm. The Nikkor 105mm macro lens for macro work and the Tokina 16-28mm when I need to go wide.Feedback
