Location
The photo was taken in Kabini, a part of the Nagarhole National Park in the Kodak district of Karnataka, India.Time
This photo was made in the evening during a jeep safari.Lighting
The light in the evenings is usually nice and soft which is great for photographing wildlife as it really brings out the detail in the animal.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D5 with a AF-S Nikkor 600mm F/4G ED VR, my most preferred lens.Inspiration
Every visit to the forest be it on assignment or a personal trip gives me the opportunity to understand my subjects better and photograph them better.Editing
While I photographed this particular shot in colour, I had already pre visualised the black and white image in my head, this I think is very important, know what you are shooting and knowing how you want to present it later. In my camera bag
I always travel with my Nikon D4s, Nikon D3s and the Nikkor 600mm F4 and the Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8 VR, perfect for wildlife in the jungles of India, where light can quite often be very low. Other than what I own I usually rent out the Nikkor 200-500mm or Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8 and a D5. All the mentioned gear along with a couple of HDDs, memory cards, my MacBook pro perfectly fit into my 32L WulfPro K9 camera bag.Feedback
Know how you want to present your final shot, a portrait in the wild can look very dramatic in black and white, so look for that perfect light while shooting.
