Awesome photo of the bridge! The sunset sets it off wonderfully and the leading lines lead you directly into the image. Great job!

Location
This photo was taken at the Confederation Bridge. The bridge links the provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick in eastern Canada. The bridge is the longest bridge to go over ice covered waters in the world. It is 12.9 km (about 8 miles)Time
This picture was taken at about 8pm on August 1st, 2015. My family and I were out for a drive. The rain had just stopped long enough for me to get out, setup my tripod and snap about 5 pictures. Then the heavens opened, and it rained so hard that when I got back in the car, I could barely see the road through the windshield wipers.Lighting
The lighting is 100% available lighting. It was just after sunset, as the rain storm was was coming in.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon T5i, with the 18-55mm kit lens, on a Vanguard ALTA+263AB100 tripod with a ball head.Inspiration
I have always wanted to take a great picture of the bridge. Every picture I have seen is the same thing. Bright sunshiny days, and from afar. I wanted to be up close, and get something dramatic. I also wanted to show how long this bridge actually is, and I find that a picture where you can see the whole bridge doesn't show it off in that way. I find it appear to be much longer looking when you can't see the other end of the bridge in the picture.Editing
I didn't make a lot of different tweaks to this photo. However, I did make some strong changes. In lightroom, I bumped the contrast up to 100, brought the highlights way down, the shadows way up, and brought the saturation up a little bit. Any other changes were very minor. In my camera bag
I don't have much of a budget, so I pretty much carry ALL of my gear with me. I have a Canon T5i, 18-55mm and 55-250mm kit lenses, the canon 50mm 1.8 stm lens, and I just keep my tripod in the back of the car so that it's always with me.Feedback
Get out and shoot regardless of the weather. My gear isn't weather proofed, so I really can't get out in heavy rain, but the weather broke long just long enough for me to get this shot. Always keep your gear with you. You never know when it will come in handy. There's really no trick to getting a shot like this. I just had the opportunity, and I jumped at it. Something else that comes in handy is an understanding wife, with a smart phone and a data plan. That way when you pull over to take some photos of the scenery, she can catch up on facebook! :)
