Location
I took this photograph on the BOOT trade fair in Dusseldorf. I was tired (as I was a exhibitor there- I am sportswear designer) and I saw people walking the street. I loved the relationship between them, it was so clear and so happy feeling that I took photograph. I had long lens attached this day so I only could take detail, but it was fine. Enough to catch what I wanted to show. I like simplicity. Less is more.Time
It was at the evening. almost on the end of the day. Very dark.Lighting
Inside the hall was bad artificial light in many colours. Flat, not interesting. That is why I decided for black and white.Equipment
I had Canon 5D mark III and Canon 70-200 f4 L- my favored lens. Not very large, not very heavy, simple and working in all conditions. I just love this lens. I have no flash, in general I like the natural light, I did not use tripod, I had to be fast as this couple was just passing near and shortly dissapeared between the crowd.Inspiration
I am solitary person, majority of my life I am alone and sometimes when I have to be between people I like to observe them. To watch body language, small details. This was just good luck to be able to catch this relationship on the picture.Editing
I always photograph in RAW, also this picture was converted to jpg in lightroom. I do very little post processing.Usually I remove all not necessary elements, correct contrast and tones, crop a bit. Here I only lightened the hand (converting to black and white) and a bit elbow-to make the situation easier to understand. In my camera bag
in the city I usually have camera and 1 lens. Usually 70-200 . I have tripod but I also like to take pictures from hand. Canon 5D mark III has little noice also on high ISO so it lets me to catch many situations in darkness. This picture was taken with ISO 3200.Feedback
As I spend over 20 years of my life as a designer I am very focused on composition. For me this is the base of good photograph. It is easier to control composition when there is less elements in the frame. So my advice is to eliminate. Leave only this what is really important. It works pretty well also in design. I always ask myself -is this element making the whole story better? If not why to not remove it? The best moment to do it is when taking picture.
