Superb well-exposed shot against the bright shafts of light which is suited to mono. Congratulations on your win.

Location
I took this photo near the Laudach Lake and Traunstein mountain in Upper Austria.Time
After hiking on top of the mountain Katzenstein we were on our way back through the woods there in the afternoon.Lighting
The lighting with the late afternoon sun was great, but not that easy to handle but with a tree covering the direct sunlight it was possible to take this shot.Equipment
I've used a Canon 5d Mk II and a Canon 17-40/L for this shot.Inspiration
I always wanted capture a misty mood in the forest, and as suddenly this mist came up at this elevated spot I took my chance to use it.Editing
I've did post processing in Photoshop with help of Nik Silver Efex to convert it in to black & white. The rest was some tonal correction and cropping it a little. In my camera bag
Canon 5d Mk III Canon 7D Canon 16-35/4 L IS Canon 50/1.4 Canon 70-200/4 L IS Canon 85/1.8 Sigma 120-300/2.8 OS Tamron 150-600 Tripod ND Filters, gradient filters, polarization filterFeedback
Just use the opportunities you have....some shots you can't plan like I usually do when I'm going to do landscape shots. Here I've used the light situation and the mist in this beautiful forest. I had a conversion into black & white in mind when I took it and I have looked for a contrasty shot.
