Thank you to all the photographers that shared their photos showing beautiful forests in this photo contest. A special thanks to friend and professional photographer Michael C. Snell for his collaboration as a guest judge. We appreciate the collaboration of all the photographers that helped us find the People's Choice by voting for their favorite shots. "Good job to everyone who submitted. There were some very nice images. Selecting the top four was difficult, but it often came down to whether the image best met the theme. Other images were very strong, but maybe better suited to a different theme." - Michael C. Snell

Grand Jury Winner

"This photo takes top honors, in my opinion. This image best captured the spirit of the theme, “a walk in the forest.” The layered trees and the path that leads the eye to the silhouette of a man add up to a nearly perfect illustration of the contest theme. I also like the placement of the path off center, and the warmth of the color balance. A very successful image." - Michael C. Snell

Runner Up

"This is my first choice for a runner-up. This is a far more unexpected, and easily overlooked, image. By getting low and coming in close on the details of the forest floor, the challenge of the concept is still met, yet the unique viewpoint brings another level of surprise and wonder. Well seen. Congratulations for going beyond the obvious" - Michael C. Snell

Runner Up

"There were a few entries that took this approach, using mist and fog to add depth to a forest image, but I felt that this one was most successful in composition and the handling of the tones. The fog is a great tool for simplifying what could have been a very busy scene, and good choices were made in composing this image that kept the rhythm of the tree trunks flowing." - Michael C. Snell

Runner Up

"The lighting made the difference in my choice for third runner-up, “Orchard, Fredericksburg, Texas” by Silverdarkness. Another image that could easily have become busy was rescued by the backlighting that created distinct layers in the image. The dark background and the golden highlights work well together and create a very pleasing scene with a distinct foreground, middle, and background." - Michael C. Snell
